@hulu campaigns
Rolling out the red carpet to premiere movies on Hulu was a total delight. Here are a few titles I worked on with other teams and filmmakers, to extend and promote their cinematic worlds.
Created: Hulu (brand-side)
Work: @hulu social (cross-functional collaboration with Hulu Originals, PR, and studio partners)
⭐️ Jump to ⭐️: Bad Hair | The Binge | Books of Blood
Bad Hair
Bad Hair is a satirical horror film from Justin Simien (Dear White People) about Anna, a young Black woman trying to move up the ranks of the TV station to become a VJ. (It’s 1989!)
To start, we immersed our audience with an in-world Instagram takeover, going from the vibrant Culture TV station (from the movie) to the spooky Cult.
Our pre- and launch posts teased the film without giving away any spoilers.
Justin Simien was into the work.
To go all out for the 80s, we made a custom 8-bit game with Momo Pixel. I helped with producing, editing copy, and creative direction.
You can still play it here: hulu.com/badhairgame
We cleaned up pretty well. The campaign received a silver ADDY, and the game received a silver ADDY, Shorty Award, and FAXIES.
The Binge
The Binge is a comedy starring Skyler Gisondo, where drugs and illegal for the entire year — except for the day of the binge.
Our promo set the vibe; and when the movie dropped, the party really got started. (The House of Mouse didn’t like the drinking game, but the filmmaker def did.)
Books of Blood
Books of Blood is a horror movie based on Clive Barker’s (Hellraiser, Candyman) classic book. The movie fits a few stories in, but you don’t want to be in the book.
We kicked off the campaign with a Reddit AMA with Clive Barker himself on r/horror. Because we spoke directly to our core fans, the AMA was our most effective execution and had the most reach.
